Werder Bremen vs. Bayer Leverkusen Match Preview and Picks

Matchweek 26 of the Bundesliga concludes with an exciting clash between Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen at Weserstadion in Bremen.

After a two-month hiatus, the German Bundesliga finally returned to our screens on Saturday. It was great to finally see some live sport again, albeit with empty stadiums and extra safety precautions for players, staff and media representatives.

So far, all teams have played their Matchweek 26 fixtures except Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen, who are in action tomorrow. German soccer giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund met expectations and recorded 2-0 and 4-0 victories respectively. Their star strikers, Robert Lewandowski and Erling Braut Haaland, both netted in the games to help their sides to victory.

We went 2-1 on our Saturday soccer picks, as we correctly predicted Erling Braut Haaland first goal scorer (+230) and under 2.5 goals in Fortuna Dusseldorf vs. Paderborn (+106). Unfortunately, Leipzig shocked many of us as they were held to a draw by Freiburg.

Now, we can look ahead to tomorrow’s clash between Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen!

Werder Bremen vs. Bayer Leverkusen Match Preview

With nine Bundesliga matchweeks to go, the two teams involved have very different season aspirations. Werder Bremen currently sit second-bottom of the table with just 18 points from 24 games. No club has spent more seasons in the German top-flight than the home side, but they are at risk of falling into the second-tier as they are nine points from safety. Their primary aim this season is to avoid relegation.

On the other hand, Bayer Leverkusen are in fifth-place, just 4 points behind RB Leipzig and the Champions League positions. A repeat of last year’s top-four finish is certainly achievable, especially after Leipzig failed to win on Saturday. They’ll be doing all they can to secure one of those all-important Champions League places.

Werder Bremen’s Bundesliga form: L-L-L-L-L-D

Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga form: W-W-D-W-W-W

As you can see, the league form of the two sides is very different. Bayer Leverkusen have won 5 of their last 6 Bundesliga matches, including a 4-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in their most recent league match on March 7. They are also still in the Europa League and have beaten opponents comfortably.

Werder Bremen have lost all of their last six home league matches, failing to score in five of them. This is the league’s worst return in both instances. To make it even harder for Bremen, they will be aware that Leverkusen have lost just one of their last seven games against them. The stats make Monday’s match-up certainly most favorable for Bayer Leverkusen and we’d be surprised if they don’t win this one.

One of the stars to look out for on Monday is Leverkusen’s attacking threat Kai Havertz, who has generated considerable interest from many of the major European clubs. Werder Bremen will be without their key player Davy Klassen for the first time this season due to suspension, which may make matters even more difficult for the home side.

Werder Bremen vs. Bayer Leverkusen Picks

Pick 1: Bayer Leverkusen to win (-143 at FOXbet)

It is hard to see past Bayer Leverkusen in this one. Players will be severely lacking in match sharpness but Leverkusen’s quality and desire to reach those Champions League places should shine through.

Pick 2: Bayer Leverkusen to win to nil (+210 at DraftKings)

Not only do we expect a Leverkusen victory, but it should also be a comfortable one for the away side. Leverkusen have conceded just 30 goals in 25 games, while Werder Bremen have scored the joint-lowest number of goals in the league. If you’re looking for a higher price to bet on than the Bayer Leverkusen ML, this is a good one.
