Wednesday Bundesliga Preview, Predictions & Picks

With five matches taking place on Wednesday, we take a look at the current Bundesliga standings and choose our three best bets.

Yesterday was monumental for the Bundesliga. A day which saw eight teams compete in their Matchday 32 fixtures ended with Bayern Munich being crowned German champions for an eighth consecutive season. The ten-men of Bayern held on to secure a 1-0 victory against relegation-threatened Werder Bremen at the Weser Stadium.

Not only was it a historic night for Bayern, but Union Berlin also had something to celebrate. The newly-promoted club, who are experiencing their first season in the German Bundesliga, defeated bottom-of-the-table Paderborn and earned the three points required to secure safety. They can rest easy knowing they will be playing their soccer in the German top-flight again next season!

Wednesday Bundesliga Preview

Here are the current Bundesliga standings and today’s slate of fixtures.

Just like yesterday, the fate of two teams can be sealed today. Koln travel to Leverkusen at 2:30pm EST in search of three points which would secure their place in next season’s Bundesliga. The same can be said for Augsburg, who can also look forward to top-flight soccer next season if they record a home win against Hoffenheim today.

Elsewhere, ninth-place Schalke take on tenth-place Eintracht Frankfurt in the early kick-off (12:30pm EST). These two sides are six and seven points from the league’s European places so will need a lot of luck in their final three matches. A win for either side would be massive.

Borussia Dortmund host Mainz today and will be hoping to extend their three-match winning streak in the league. After Bayern clinched the title yesterday, morale in the Dortmund camp is expected to be lower than usual. However, they will be keen to ensure that they continue their winning run tomorrow and effectively secure second-place in the process.

The fifth matchup of today’s slate sees third-place RB Leipzig host 16th-place Fortuna Dusseldorf. There is huge importance for both sides, as a win for Leipzig would almost certainly guarantee Champions League soccer next season and a win for Dusseldorf would boost their chances of survival.

Our Wednesday Bundesliga Picks

Yesterday we went 2-1 with our Tuesday Bundesliga picks. Here are our three best bets ahead of the Wednesday Bundesliga slate to consider when making your own bets.

Pick 1: Borussia Dortmund to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 vs. Mainz (+250 at FOXbet)

We picked this β€˜FOXbet Bet Boost’ for the Bayern Munich game yesterday and it certainly paid off! We’re expecting another shutout tonight for Dortmund at home to 15th-place Mainz.

Since the return to Bundesliga action in May, Dortmund have conceded just two goals in six games. Their last two results against Dusseldorf and Hertha ended 1-0, and it makes sense to expect a similar sort of result against a Mainz side just one place above the relegation spots.

Dortmund have scored in 18 of their last 19 Bundesliga fixtures and, with star striker Erling Haaland and his offensive teammates on form, there should be no problems finding the net on Wednesday. We’re expecting goals for the home side.

It’s a different story for Mainz. They’ve failed to find the net in three of their six matches since the return to action and will find it difficult against a strong Dortmund defense. Dortmund to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 is our prediction.

Pick 2: Tie in Augsburg vs. Hoffenheim (+265 at DraftKings)

The form of 14th-place Augsburg and 8th-place Hoffenheim has been very mixed since the Bundesliga’s return. In fact, both sides have recorded two wins, two draws and two losses since the restart.

Both teams are also in search of valuable points as we approach the end of the season Hoffenheim are fighting for one of those sough-after European places and currently sit just two points outside of the top-seven, with a game-in-hand over 7th-place Freiburg. Augsburg need just one point in this match to secure another season of Bundesliga soccer. They’ll be determined to achieve this on Wednesday and breathe a sigh of relief.

Augsburg are likely to set up tactically to clinch that important point and Hoffenheim may not have the quality in front of goal to spoil the survival party. We expect a draw here.

Pick 3: RB Leipzig to score first and win vs. Fortuna Dusseldorf (-245 at DraftKings)

A win on Wednesday will almost guarantee Leipzig a place in next season’s Champions League. That was their season target and they’ll be delighted that they’re so close with just three games remaining.

The form of these two sides is totally different. Leipzig are unbeaten since the league restart and have accumulated 12 points, whereas Dusseldorf picked up just six points. Nine of Leipzig’s 15 goals scored since the restart have come in the first half of the game and Leipzig have gone on to win in three of those games.

Leipzig should have plenty in the tank on Wednesday to record a routine win against a Dusseldorf side 13 places below them in the table. Not only that, but we’re expecting one or two early Leipzig goals.
