We look at the updated NBA odds as Zion Williamson is ruled out for up to 8 weeks with knee injury.
Zion Williamson, arguably the most anticipated rookie since LeBron James, will miss up to two months of the 2019-20 NBA season after undergoing surgery on his right knee on Monday. After Anthony Davis was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason, the New Orleans Pelicans took 19-year-old Zion as the first overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft. As a result, Zion became the face of the Pelicans for the upcoming season.
Unfortunately, Pelicans fans will most likely not see their new man on court until mid-December. Prior to his injury, Zion was -150 for Rookie of the Year. This was supported by his spectacular pre-season performances, where he averaged 23.3 points per game.
His Rookie of the Year odds now stand at +100 at DraftKings Sportsbook. The Pelicans were +5000 odds at William Hill to win the NBA Championship and are now +8000. Unbelievably, the sportsbooks were offering odds of +25000 for the Pelicans last night, but odds have dropped significantly since being snapped up by sharp bettors. Still fancy Zion’s Pelicans to have a successful season?
