Tuesday Bundesliga Preview, Predictions and Picks

With four matches taking place on Tuesday, we take a look at the league’s current standings and choose our three best bets.

Tuesday Bundesliga Preview

It’s Matchday 32 in the Bundesliga schedule – all 18 teams have just three more games to play until their fate is sealed.

Bayern Munich stretched their winning streak to ten on Saturday after beating Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 at the Allianz Arena. Bayern’s victory retained their seven-point lead at the top of the table and means they only need one more win to be crowned Bundesliga champions for the eighth consecutive season.

Saturday’s result was a major blow to Monchengladbach’s race for a Champions League spot. Their loss, combined with Leverkusen’s draw against ninth-place Schalke on Sunday, means that Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Leverkusen make up the top four places in the league. Monchengladbach sit just one point behind Leverkusen. It’s still all to play for!

The Champions League spots are still to be settled, and so are the Europa League places. Fifth, sixth and seventh-place are rewarded with entry to the Europa League next season, which are currently filled by Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim. However, Hoffenheim are just one point ahead of Freiburg in eighth-place and will be looking over their shoulder right until the very end.

At the other end of the Bundesliga table, Union Berlin, Augsburg and Koln are almost safe. Unless something immeasurable happens, they’ll be playing their soccer in the Bundesliga again next season. It’s worrying times for Fortuna Dusseldorf and Werder Bremen who look desperately for points from their final three games. Eleven points from safety, it is mathematically impossible for Paderborn survive and will be returning to the German second-tier next season.

There are eight teams in action on Tuesday for Matchday 32, followed by five more games on Wednesday. Focusing on Tuesday, Monchengladbach host Wolfsburg in what is an incredibly important match for both teams.

There’s another huge game in Bremen on Tuesday, as Werder Bremen need to pick up some points on their road to safety. Unfortunately for them, they’ll be taking on a Bayern team who will be crowned Bundesliga champions if they win on Tuesday. It’s the hardest task Bremen could have asked for!

Elsewhere, there’s a mid-table battle between Freiburg and Hertha Berlin. Freiburg are four points ahead of Hertha Berlin and both teams have a chance of securing a top-seven spot and a European place.

The fourth game of Tuesday’s slate sees relegation-struck Paderborn travel to Berlin to face Union. With Paderborn at an all-time low mentally, this is a great chance for Union to snatch all three points at home and cement their place in next season’s top-flight.

Our Tuesday Bundesliga Picks

Here are our three best bets ahead of Tuesday’s slate for you to consider when making your own bets.

Pick 1: Union Berlin to win vs. Paderborn (-115 at FanDuel)

As already mentioned, Paderborn are at their lowest point of the season mentally. Their fate was decided at the weekend after being thumped 5-1 by league-strugglers Werder Bremen. Having picked up just 20 points from 31 games this season, it can’t really get any worse…can it?

Well, it could. Union Berlin will be determined to pick up the points that will secure their place in next season’s Bundesliga and will definitely fancy their chances on Tuesday. While the home sides have struggled since the return of the German soccer, this fixture shouldn’t really present any danger for Union.

Paderborn have drawn their last three away games against Leipzig, Augsburg and Dusseldorf, but they failed to show any real dominance in these games. Union come into this one off the back of a 2-1 victory away 12th-place to Koln. We just can’t see anything other than a Union Berlin win on Tuesday.

Pick 2: Bayern Munich to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 vs. Werder Bremen (+250 at FOXbet)

You can pretty much put your house on Bayern winning on Tuesday. They’ve won their last ten league matches and most of them have been light work. Yes, Bayern are facing a Werder Bremen side who desperately need points to stay in the league and have just beaten Paderborn 5-1, but Bayern are a major step up compared to Bremen’s weekend opponents.

Not only have Bayern cruised past their previous opponents since the return to Bundesliga action in May, but they have recorded three clean sheets from those six games. The three teams that have scored against them have been top-half teams. We can see Tuesday’s matchup being a routine victory for Bayern with very few goal threats from Bremen.

Pick 3: Tie in Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Wolfsburg (+250 at DraftKings)

While both sides are high up in the league standings – Monchengladbach in 4th and Wolfsburg in 5th – neither side has really been firing on all cylinders since the restart Monchengladbach have recorded two wins, one draw and three losses since the return to action, picking up seven points from a possible 18. Wolfsburg have performed slightly better, picking up 10 points.

Monchengladbach need the points in order to get back into the top-four and fight until the very end for that all-important Champions League spot. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, cannot reach the Champions League spots but need just a few more points to secure a Europa League place.

Both teams have their sights set on Europe and both will be afraid to lose on Tuesday. It’s going to be a close contest and we think the tie is the most likely outcome.
