We run through the odds ahead of The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Course and share our predictions, top picks and sleepers.
Golf fans, it’s almost time for the 151st Open at Royal Liverpool.
The Open Championship, held in the UK each year, is the oldest golf tournament in the world. With that comes rich history and prestige that you won’t find associated with any other golf event. It offers up a different experience to the likes of the Masters and the US Open.
The Open will begin on Thursday, July 20 in Liverpool, England. At Royal Liverpool Golf Club, to be precise. Barring any weather delays or extraordinary circumstances, a winner will be crowned on Sunday, July 23.
We’re here to shed some light on the field of 156 golfers that will be battling it out for the trophy lifted by Cameron Smith last year. We will pick out our picks from the field, plus a sleeper pick for the Open 2023.
But first, let’s look at the odds for the tournament.

As expected, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler top the odds. McIlroy comes into this one after a 2023 Scottish Open victory. Scheffler, the current World No.1, is the most consistent golfer in the world right now.
Further down the list of players is the likes of Tommy Fleetwood (+2200) and Robert MacIntyre (+6600). Both were impressive at last week’s Scottish Open and will hope to continue their form at Hoylake, just a few hours down the road from the Renaissance Club.
The Open 2023 Predictions & Picks
Ok, so now you know who the top contenders are for this year’s Open Championship. Now, we can share with you our betting picks for the tournament.
Pick 1: Cameron Smith (+1600) – BET HERE
It’s not often that an Open champion retains his title the following year. In fact, Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington both did it from 2005 to 2008, but it hasn’t been done again since.
Can Cam Smith be the one to break this 15-year trend? We certainly think so.
Smith is a links expert, which was evident in St. Andrews last year at the 150th Open Championship. Short game is his forte – the Aussie excels around the green. All of this points towards some great golf from Cameron Smith at Royal Liverpool.

The now LIV golfer hasn’t finished outside of the top 12 in any of LIV’s last six events. In addition, Smith finished tied 9th at the PGA Championship and fourth at the US Open.
The 29-year-old Australian’s confidence is high, and so it should be. Hoylake could be witnessing a Cam Smith masterclass this weekend.
Pick 2: Tommy Fleetwood (+2200) – BET HERE
Next up on our list of Open 2023 betting picks is Tommy Fleetwood.
If we’re talking confidence, this man is around pole position. Fleetwood comes into this tournament off the back of a top-10 finish at the Genesis Scottish Open 2023. A final round of +2 affected his chance of glory after he was -7 through three rounds.

Now, the Englishman returns home to fight for his first golf major. It seems mad to think that Fleetwood hasn’t yet won a major. But that is probably because he is always up at the top come Sunday. He just needs to turn last week’s three impressive rounds into four this week.
Similar to Smith, Royal Liverpool will suit Fleetwood’s game. At +2200 odds, he has to be worth a shot.

Open 2023 Sleeper Pick: Sahith Theegala (+15000) – BET HERE
You simply cannot pass up on Sahith Theegala this week at odds of +15000. He is our Open Championship sleeper pick.
The 25-year-old is one of the most promising young talents in the sport and is 35th in the Official World Golf Ranking. He just shouldn’t be +15000 to win at Royal Liverpool.

It is worth noting that Theegala has not recorded a top-10 finish since April. However, that month he did finish top 10 in two events, including the Masters. A top-10 finish at the Masters should never go unnoticed.
If Theegala brings his game to England, he is in with a real shot. Or, if you want a slightly safer bet, he is +1100 to finish top 10 at BetMGM. Theegala is probably the best-value golfer from the entire field this week.
Where Can I Watch the 2023 Open Championship?
