A ‘Super Yankee’ bet, also known as a round robin in the U.S., combines the upside of parlay wagering while offering countless more ways to win.
A Super Yankee bet allows gamblers to experience the same thrill as betting a parlay, but with many more options and opportunities for victory.
The Super Yankee bet is most popular in the United Kingdom and most prevalent in horse racing, but its strategies and outcomes can be applied to team sports as well.
Naturally, Yankee bets gave way to Super Yankee bets. As we explain the concept, you may see the similarities to what we call “round-robin” wagers in the US.
How Do I Place a Super Yankee Bet?
A Super Yankee bet consists of some 26 separate wagers on five different selections.
This wager type originated as a spinoff from the Yankee wager, which is the same concept only with four selections rather than five. In some locales, this wager is known as a “Canadian Bet”.

As mentioned, the wager got its start in horse racing. But it’s applicable to any game in which you can combine different outcomes, including popular American team sports.
There are no single wagers in a Super Yankee bet, only combinations:
- 10 possible combinations of two winners
- 10 possible combinations of three winners
- 5 possible combinations of four winners
- 1 combination of all five winners
The bettor is placing 26 separate wagers on every possible combination of his five selections. Therefore, it is essential that at least two of the selections win in order to receive any return on your wager.

Examples of a Super Yankee Bet
What would your Super Yankee bet look like in reality?
Let’s make an example using some famous racehorses in hypothetical events. To place a Super Yankee bet, firstly you’d be choosing one winner from each of five races:
- A: Secretariat
- B: Easy Goer
- C: Sunday Silence
- D: American Pharoah
- E: Justified
To place a Super Yankee bet, you would choose your winner from all five races. But rather than bet each race separately, or as a pick-five, a Super Yankee bet would separate your five chosen outcomes into 26 separate combinations of two, three, four, and five-race outcomes.
Winning Combinations
Below we show the different potential winning combinations from all five races. For the purposes of this hypothetical example, assume all horses are at even (+100) odds.
COMBINATIONS OF: | POSSIBLE WINNING OUTCOMES |
2 | (10) A-B, A-C, A-D, A-E, B-C, B-D, B-E, C-D, C-E, D-E |
3 | (10) A-B-C, A-B-D, A-B-E, A-C-D, A-C-E, A-D-E, B-C-D, B-C-E, B-D-E, C-D-E |
4 | (5) A-B-C-D, A-B-C-E, A-B-D-E, A-C-D-E, B-C-D-E |
5 | (1) A-B-C-D-E |
Therefore, the more individual winners you choose the more combinations that cash. In turn, increasing the final payout from your Super Yankee bet.

How Much Can I Win?
There’s really no limit to how much you can win, however it depends on the odds applied to each winning selection.
But using our above example, here’s a demonstration of how the winnings multiply with each winning selection.
If you place a $26 Super Yankee bet ($1 on each of the 26 possible combinations), here are your potential payouts. We’re using +100 odds for each winner:
# OF WINNERS | YOUR PAYOUT |
1 | No payout – total loss of $26. Super Yankee bets require winning combinations. |
2 | You win $4 on your winning combination for a total loss of $22. |
3 | You win $20 on your winning combinations for a total loss of $6. |
4 | You win $72 on your winning combinations for a total profit of $46. |
5 | You win $232 on your winning combinations for a total profit of $206. |
At these odds, you nearly break even with three winners out of five, while correctly picking four of five winners expands your profit considerably.

Is a Super Yankee Worth Placing?
Of course, in the real world the odds on most horses will be higher than +100. Even favored horses routinely leave the gate with odds of 3-1 (+300) or higher.
Moreover, that’s where Super Yankee bets start to make a little more sense. Using our same example from above, betting $1 per combination for a total of $26 wagered, let’s look at potential payouts if all selected horses have odds of 3-1 (+300):
Potential Payouts
# OF WINNERS | YOUR PAYOUT |
1 | No payout – total loss of $26. |
2 | You win $16 on your winning combination for a total loss of $10. |
3 | You win $112 on your winning combinations for a total profit of $86. |
4 | You win $608 on your winning combinations for a total profit of $582. |
5 | You win $3,104 on your winning combinations for a total profit of $3,078. |
Now, it takes only two winners to win back more than half your stake, while three winners turn a more-than-respectable profit, and 4-5 winners represent big paydays.
In a real-life scenario, it’ll be hard to find five outcomes with the exact same odds. So these potential payouts will depend heavily on the odds of the winning outcomes.
That’s why horse racing is the easiest sport to use as an example for Super Yankee wagering, but the principles apply in American team sports as well.
If you were to place a Super Yankee wager with NFL teams, a win on the Detroit Lions, for example, at +400 odds would be more valuable to your possible combinations than say, the Kansas City Chiefs at -150 odds.

So yes, with the right combination of odds, placing a Super Yankee bet is absolutely worthwhile.
The thrill of parlay wagering and its jackpot-style payouts is still there. But the ‘all-or-nothing’ strategy is replaced by the knowledge that as long as you get a couple, or a few, or several of your choices correct – there will be some payout on your wager at the end.
