In a game that could’ve gone either way, Patrick Mahomes stole the headlines as his team brought the Super Bowl home to Kansas City for the first time in 50 years.
What a Super Bowl it was. Televised in more than 180 countries, all eyes were on two teams. It was a case of a high-scoring Kansas City Chiefs team up against a resolute and well-drilled San Francisco 49ers.
Even at half-time, the game was wide open as the teams were tied at 10-10. With just over seven minutes to go, the Chiefs were facing a third-and-15 and trailing 20-10. It wasn’t looking good for Andy Reid’s men.
Then, it all changed. Mahomes hitting Tyreek Hill for a 44-yard gain and Damien Williams scoring a controversial touchdown both contributed to the Chiefs taking a 24-20 lead in the latter stages. One final Williams touchdown extended the Chiefs’ winning margin to 31-20.
The Chiefs victory meant that Mahomes became the youngest player to win both an NFL MVP award and a Super Bowl title, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith who was 24 years and 233 days old back in 1993.
As always, a big sporting event came with some big betting stories. One bettor correctly predicted the correct score line on Sunday, wagering $10,000 on 31 Chiefs points and $3,500 on 20 San Francisco points. This player banked $230,000!

One bigger bettor wagered $750,000 last night on the Chiefs -1.5 prior to the game. This bet won comfortably and the player netted $682,000 profit.
There were a number of prop bets that proved popular at William Hill Sportsbook. The three most popular prop bets (by total $ wagered) all lost. These were:
- Patrick Mahomes over 36.5 total rushing yards (-110)
- Chiefs over 13.5 first half points (-135)
- Opening coin toss – heads
To anyone out there with the post-Super Bowl blues, there’s plenty more sporting action this month to keep us all occupied. The 2020 NFL season will be here before we know it!
