Premier League 19/20 MatchDay 13: The Spurs Did a Thing and Man City Host Chelsea

THE PREMIER LEAGUE RETURNS, AND SO DOES JOSE MOURINHO. SOCCER EXPERT WAG IS 18-10 IN RECENT WEEKS, LOOKING TO EARN YOU MORE MONEY.

The ‘Chosen One’ has returned to the Premier League. Tottenham have decided to go for broke by firing the best manager the club has ever had, and added the best manager any club could have, Jose Mourinho. Pochettino made way for Jose Mourinho as the Spurs are struggling in 14th place. The Premier League just got a whole lot better as more drama will develop as the season goes on. Jose is the engine to drama and I can not wait to see the shit show unfold. But this dramatic switch-up is nothing new for the Premier League, and it won’t effect how the top 6 will shape up. We just went through our last International break of the year as we head into the bulk of Premier League soccer. Here are your lines, provided by William Hill.

West Ham United vs. Tottenham

PREVIEW
The first challenge Mourinho has to face are ‘The Hammers’ from West Ham at the London Stadium. Mourinho finds a lot of success against his fellow Londoners where he looks to hurt them again. West Ham’s current form is abysmal after beating Manchester United. West Ham are winless in their last seven fixtures in all competitions. However, this could be the turnaround the Spurs have been waiting for. A long with a new manager, the Spurs are looking to get out of their five game winless streak in the Premier League against a suffering West Hame squad. I wonder what Kane, Alli, Son etc. will look like under Mourinho’s control…?

KEY STATS

  • Mourinho managed against West Ham 14 times, winning 9
  • Spurs won 3 of last 5 away PL games vs. West Ham
  • In all competitions, the away side has won 5 of last 6 fixtures when the two teams played each other

PREDICTION
Jose Mourinho gets to introduce match day 13 to the public. He will make sure his re-re-re entry into the Premier League will be a memorable game. His first game in charge of Chelsea, the first time around, he beat Manchester United 1-0. He beat Hull 2-0 on his Chelsea return, and he beat Bournemouth away with Manchester United 1-3. So yea, Tottenham is going to win this fixture.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Leicester City

PREVIEW
Brighton will have their hands full with Foxes as Leicester City travel to the coast. Before the international break, Brighton lost to Manchester United away 3-1 where the Red Devils dominated the game. Conceding two goals in the first 20 minutes of the match is not a good way to start any game. Brighton were able to score to cut the deficit in half, but Marcus Rashford scored two minutes after, burying any hope from the Seagulls. Leicester are looking to win their 10th consecutive game in all competitions, 9th straight win in the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers is creating magic with these foxes, reigniting Vardy’s crackhead powers with youngsters Tielemans and Maddison as the supporting cast. However, Brighton is to not be taken lightly when they are at home.

KEY STATS

  • Brighton have lost 1 PL game at home this season
  • Brighton are winless in all PL meetings vs, Leicester (4 games)
  • Leicester have won 1 of their last 6 away PL games vs. Brighton

PREDICTION
Although I didn’t think Brighton had such a strong home record, I do think they will suffer their second home defeat this season against Leicester. Not only does Leicester have more quality and more recent success, but I’m pretty sure a fox will eat a seagull on any day of the week. I’m disregarding previous results between the two Premier League teams because this is a different Leicester team that is pursuing a second title! They love their miracle runs.

Sheffield United vs. Manchester United

PREVIEW
Why did I pick this snooze-fest of a game? Because Manchester United are playing away and the Under total goals is United’s best friend as well as ours. And also because this is the only Sunday game the Premier League has scheduled. Give me more games! Anyways, Sheffield are quietly sitting in the top 6 as the lowest scoring club in the Top 10! Just ridiculous. But Sheffield were the dagger to Pochettino’s fate when they tied Spurs 1-1. Manchester United are sitting in 7th place after beating Brighton at home. With the return of Martial, the Red Devils offense has looked more creative and dangerous in their last few fixtures. Rashford, James, and Martial could become the trio of the future.

KEY STATS

  • MU won last 7 games vs. Sheffield (Agg. 14-1)
  • Since Sir Alex left MU, MU lost 6 of 19 away PL games vs. promoted teams
  • Sheffield are unbeaten in last 5 PL games

PREDICTION
I think Manchester United away record is getting a boost. Rashford, James, Martial, and McTominay. These are the 4 players you have to watch on Sunday. The way these four youngsters are able to connect and the passion they express after every play is something special. I don’t know if Ole reached out to Mr. Cartmanez for guidance on how to reach these kids but it’s working, and I like the Manchester United money line.

Aston Villa vs. Newcastle United

PREVIEW
Aston Villa will look to regain some confidence at home when Newcastle come to town. Villa are currently on a three game losing streak in the Premier League, most recently falling to Wolverhampton 2-1 after Jimenez sealed the deal in the 84th-minute. Villa are just above the relegation zone and with a win. They could be just 1 point behind Newcastle who sit in 13th place. Newcastle have won three Premier League fixtures out of their last five, beating Manchester United, West Ham away, and Bournemouth most recently. Newcastle took advantage of so many Bournemouth mistakes that led to the northerners 21 shots, winning 2-1. Steve Bruce has his boys in a positive swing as they look to continue their momentum into a tough atmosphere at Villa Park.

KEY STATS

  • Villa are winless in 6 home PL games vs. Newcastle
  • Newcastle are unbeaten in last 12 PL games vs. Villa
  • Newcastle have lost 12 of last 15 PL games played on a Monday

PREDICTION
This is a crucial game for Aston Villa. They need to create some distance from the relegation zone if they want to stay in the top tier of English soccer. The great thing about Villa is that they are very strong at home. Villa has lost 2 home games out of their last 7 in the Premier League. They know how to defend their home. Im double dipping in this game. In the last five matchups between these two teams, no more than two goals have fallen in each of those games. Under 2.5 and the Aston Villa Money Line is your Monday bet.

PREVIEW
Wow. This game could be more thrilling than when Liverpool beat City 3-1. There is so much at stake for Pep and his Cityzens because if the Blues come away with three points, City will have a four point gap to reach 3rd AND Liverpool will have a double digit lead in points against City. No pressure for the boys in baby blue. The Chelsea Blues have a big mountain to climb at the Etihad. Manchester City have only slipped up against 2 teams at home this calendar year. The 2-0 defeat against the Wolves and Tottenham’s unreal Champions League comeback (I know they didn’t lose the game, but they lost in aggregate at City. That feels like a loss). It’s not Anfield, but it is a fortress that can turn ugly for any Cityzen opponent. Chelsea lost 6-0 last time in the Etihad, just a friendly reminder. But it’s not Saari-ball that the Blues are bringing into Manchester, it’s Super-Frank-playing-the-role-of-a-soccer-mom-as-he-pulls-up-in-his-minivan-full-of-kids-ball. But these kids are Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, and Christian Pulisic. Although Abraham has been more consistent, Pulisic is the one with the hot foot. Pulisic is looking to score in his fourth straight game and the American, who rested during the International break, will be fresh heading into the Etihad.

KEY STATS

  • City have won 5 of last 8 PL games vs. Chelsea
  • Chelsea lost 3 of last 4 PL away games vs. City
  • Chelsea are looking to win 8 consecutive away win in all competitions

PREDICTION
Just look at the William Hill line for Manchester City right now at -225. Especially coming back from a loss, Pep is going unleash his wrath against Chelsea. Although he is a big Frank Lampard fan, he will burn every bridge on that field come Saturday. Pep can’t completely lose his cool, otherwise Chelsea will jump on them. But to his defense VAR did Manchester City dirty not calling the Alexander-Arnold handball. However, I think Manchester City will win this game, but I think this will be a low scoring affair. Bet the Under 3.5 total goals.
