NFL Week 2: Where the money is going

PointsBet USA’s Matt Chaprales shares the trading insights for Week 2 of the NFL with AmericanBettingExperts. Find out where the public are putting their money and where the big bets are being placed.

CHI Bears (-2) @ DEN Broncos (Sun, 9/15)

Chicago Bears have been the biggest public bet this week and there is loads of money coming in on the 2 points favorites winning in Denver. However, it is worth noting that PointsBet took a $130,000 bet on Chicago -2.5 but the line moved the other way, with the traders clearly keen to oppose the big bettors. As Matt Chaprales said:

β€œBiggest decision of the day — combination of a $130k bet on Chicago -2.5 and minimal public interest on Denver”

MIN Vikings (+2.5) @ GB Packers (Sun, 9/15)

The second big potential liability for PointsBet on Week 2 are the Green Bay Packers. The Packers have been lumped by the public and even some sharps, but PointsBet are refusing to make Green Bay bigger than 2.5 favorites, which shows that the traders have faith in the Vikings covering the spread.

β€œSecond biggest decision of the day. Ticket count is 2 to 1 in favor of Green Bay, but 88% of the money is on the Packers. Number has bounced back and forth between -3 and -2.5, with some sharp action at 2.5”

NE Patriots (-18.5) @ MIA Dolphins (Sun, 9/15)

Meanwhile, in one of the most lopsided matches of the season, the Miami Dolphins are starting to be bet to cover a massive 18.5 points spread. The New England Patriots crushed Pittsburg in week one, and have been popular all week but Matt Chaprales told AmericanBettingExperts that the sharps are starting to think the line may be too big:

β€œInsane game by NFL standards, both the size of the road favorite as well as the adjustment that we have seen on the spread. Patriots opened as 15-point favorites and moved as high as -19. Adjustments of more than a field goal are rarely seen in the NFL. After mostly New England money at the beginning of the week, Miami money has started to come in late. Current money split is 64/36 to the Dolphins.”

NO Saints (+2) @ LA Rams (Sun, 9/15)

In the NFC there is a huge match between the New Orleans Saints and the LA Rams and again the betting shows a bit of a split between the public and the big bettors.

β€œObviously a huge early season matchup that figures to have major implications in the NFC playoff picture, despite it only being Week 2. Nearly 80% of the tickets on the Rams, but only 60% of the money, so some of the heavier bets have come in on the Saints.”

PHI Eagles (-1) @ ATL Falcons (Sun, 9/15)

Philadelphia Eagles are, understandably, a popular pick on Sunday with all bettors and are one of the biggest bets of the weekend by both handle and volume.

β€œThis game opened as a pick β€˜em and moved steadily in favor of the Eagles,
getting as high as -2 before a bit of resistance sent it back to -1. As expected,
recreational bettors have hammered the Eagles – just under 80% of the tickets and 70% of the money,” said Chaprales
