Indianapolis Colts at New Orleans Saints Preview

Afters starting the season 6-4, the Indianapolis Colts are officially on the ropes. To be fair, their season was turned upside down the moment franchise icon and QB Andrew Luck decided to abruptly retire in the preseason. However, they weathered the early storm, but it appears their early season efforts will be for naught as they now sit at 6-7.

Starting QB Jacoby Brissett has had his ups and downs to this point, and it’s fair to say that he has overachieved. It remains to be seen if the Colts look at Brissett as their future, but he has proven that he can be serviceable at the helm. He’s been without his go-to receiver, T.Y Hilton, as Hilton has been battling injuries and is again looking questionable at best for Monday’s game. If Hilton is in the lineup, that will help the offense make the big plays they need down the field to keep up with the Saints offense.

The Saints are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the 49ers in the game of the season. In the 48-46 loss, Drew Brees turned back the clock in a legendary performance, throwing for 349 yards, 5 TDs, and a rushing TD on top of that. In the end, his efforts weren’t enough, as the Saints lost their hold on a 1st round bye in the stacked NFC.

The Saints can win any which way. If their defense is struggling as it was last week, they can score with anyone in the league. On the outside, Brees has his favorite weapon, Michael Thomas, who leads the league with an astounding 121 receptions to this point.

Other times, if the offense can’t get it done, the Saints defense can step up. Simply put, this team is talented, well-coached, and has the horses to win the whole thing. It remains to be seen if they will do that, and with Brees fighting Father Time, the clock is ticking.

Indianapolis Colts at New Orleans Saints Prediction

The Saints are 9.5 point home favorites at home in this game. Coming off an offensive explosion, the Saints know they can score on the best defenses, which unfortunately for the Colts, they’re not.

The Colts are indeed struggling, as they’ve lost 4 of their last 5 games. That being said, there is still talent on this team, and we’ve seen weird things happen in this league. I think this game will be closer than expected throughout, as the Colts will be able to establish their running attack against a banged up Saints line.

I’m taking the Colts to cover, but I’m buying a point to make this one +10.5. The Saints will pull away at the end and move to 11-3, but it will be a battle that they didn’t expect to have for the first 3 quarters.
