Another day, another winning record. There’s only been one day where I’ve had a losing record betting baseball in the last seven days. It’s been a fun ride. I feel like August and September give bettors the best chance just cause there’s stats to look at and study up. There’s so much more information and now we’re rolling with it. We have another double-header on the slate. Yesterday, I said stay away from double-headers. Today I actually see value in game 1.

White Sox @ Tigers 1:10 pm

The Chicago White Sox (49-61) will be playing a double-header vs the Detroit Tigers (32-76) in the afternoon. Dylan Cease (1-4 6.43 ERA) allowed three runs in five innings in his debut to the Tigers with the White Sox. Since then, he’s struggled to keep the earned runs down. He pitched seven innings against the Mets last week, but allowed four runs. Although, that performance looked like this best this season. He’s got decent stuff. Good enough for an MLB starter. Daniel Norris (3-8 4.67 ERA) of the Tigers has been the same at home. He’s struggled against the White Sox this season, starting three games. He’s never passed the 5th inning and has allowed 10 earned runs in 15 innings. The Tigers are 13-38 at home and 5-14 when Norris pitches. I’ll take my chances with Cease and the White Sox with a ton of value on the road.

Phillies @ Diamondbacks 9:40 pm

The Philadelphia Phillies will be sending out Jake Arrieta (8-8 4.44 ERA) against Diamondbacks newly acquired starting pitcher Mike Leake (9-8 4.27 ERA). Arrieta is pitching with bone spurs in his elbow which means he will not be going the distance (or even close to it.) Arrieta hasn’t pitched passed the 6th inning in his last five starts. Sometimes I have trouble taking pitchers who are newly acquired but in July, Leake was 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 30 innings pitched. Phillies batters have since Leake a lot when he was in Cincinnati. Current hitters are batting .260 in 204 plate appearances. I like the D-Backs chances going late into this game.

Cardinals @ Dodgers 10:10 pm

I can never pass up a Clayton Kershaw game, especially when he’s home. Clayton Kershaw (10-2 2.85 ERA) is even better at home sporting an ERA of 2.35 with seven wins and no losses in 11 games started for the Dodgers (75-40). Kershaw will face Miles Mikolas (7-11 4.00 ERA) and the St. Louis Cardinals (58-53). In 17 career starts against the Cardinals, Kershaw is 7-5 with a 3.07 ERA. In Mikolas’ previous start against the Cards in April, he allowed three runs in six innings, with just three strikeouts. I expect the Dodgers to score enough for Kershaw. They’ll cruise to victory in this one.
