Love him or hate him, Jake Paul is here to stay.

Whether it was Vine, Disney Channel, or YouTube, Paul has always found a way to be successful. And yes, this includes professional boxing, too.

Paul’s boxing career first became of notice to the public leading up to his November 28, 2020 fight against Nate Robinson. Yes, the former NBA player.

In that fight, Paul KO’d the former point guard in the second round.

OK, great, he won that fight, but it was against a former NBA player.

Well, his next fight came against someone that was a bit more accomplished in fighting – Ben Askren.

Granted, Askren has never been known for his striking ability in either the UFC or Bellator, but after Paul TKO’d the former MMA champion, it’s safe to say we all took more and more notice.

After the Askren fight, Paul would go on to fight another former MMA fighter in Tyron Woodley, not once, but twice. He won both by a split decision and a knockout in the sixth round.

Today, Jake Paul is 5-0 as a professional boxer and is awaiting his next challenge.

Many have speculated his next encounter will be another boxing match, but what about the possibility of Paul venturing into MMA where things can get a bit more difficult?

Will we be seeing a Jake Paul MMA Debut?

Leading up to his second bout with Woodley, Paul made it clear this was possible saying, “I don’t see why if I can do boxing at this high of a level that I couldn’t do MMA at this high of a level.”

“I’m gonna go get coached up by Jav Mendez, Team Khabib. That’s that. They’re down — 100 percent,” Paul continued.

While this is definitely a spectacle to look forward to, we may have to wait, though, as Paul did give us a rough timeline for when this possibility could turn into a reality.

“I’ve gotta go 10-0, 12-0 in boxing first and then I’ll hit that MMA fight,” he said.

Woodley, who he would eventually knockout in their second fight had his doubts about the authenticity of Paul’s claims he’d fight MMA.

“He’s f—ing a liar,” Woodley said. “Let’s do it, then. You want to make a bet? Let’s make a bet. You want to fight MMA, come and fight me. I came to box him. I went up a weight class and a half. Come to MMA, we’ll fight at middleweight and you’ll really see what it is.”

Since Paul notified the world of this possibility, though, he appears to be focused on boxing for the time being and has even confirmed reports of his next potential opponent to us. Although, it’s clear he isn’t just training for boxing…

Appearing on the Boxing with Chris Mannix podcast, Paul confirmed that he is interested in taking on former world champion Julio Chavez Jr.

β€œIt’s interesting. I like that fight a lot because it silences the critics,” Paul said.

β€œHe was a former World Champion, and I know I could beat him. And you look at his record, it’s like 50 wins or something, and I don’t even know the losses, but it’s a good record. So that challenge excites me and I’m down,” Paul continued.

This comes after Paul was set to fight Tommy Fury, but Fury backed out of the fight two weeks before the event. Now, however, Fury claims he’ll be ready to fight Paul in March.

Even with this interest in Chavez Jr., though, Paul has also claimed he would like to take some time off of boxing after an active 2021 in the ring, so really, it’s unclear where we go from here in terms of Paul’s next opponent.

Jake Paul Next Opponent Odds

OddsChecker published odds on Paul’s next opponent, but this was from December 19, 2021, and before Paul confirmed interest in Chavez Jr.

Still, though, this list could be something to keep in mind whether it’s boxing or if Paul does make the leap to MMA.
