The city of London is home to the most teams in the English Premier League. How many are based in London, and how successful are these clubs?
The English Premier League is one of the biggest soccer leagues in the world. It is watched and supported by millions around the world every single week. However, as the name suggests, the EPL is composed of soccer teams from England (with the exception of Cardiff City and Swansea City in previous years).
Naturally, teams from several cities and towns across England compete in the Premier League. But what remains constant is the significant representation of London teams every season. In the 2023/2024 season, there are seven London teams out of 20 in the Premier League.
The number of London teams in the Premier League fluctuates year-on-year. This is because three teams get relegated to the English Championship and three teams get promoted to the Premier League every year.

How Many Premier League Teams Are in London?
There are currently seven London-based teams in the English Premier League. These teams are Arsenal, Brentford, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham.
The 2023/2024 season is the first time in 19 years since there were as many as seven London-based clubs competing in the Premier League.
Here is some background on each London team.
Location: Holloway, North London
Stadium: Emirates Stadium (60,704 capacity)
Founded in 1886, Arsenal is one of the largest-supported London teams in the Premier League. Additionally, Arsenal is one of two London-based clubs to have won the league.
Also known as ‘The Gunners’, Arsenal has won the EPL in 1997-1998, 2001-2002 and 2003-2004. The 03/04 season was the most iconic for Arsenal fans, as the team managed to complete the season undefeated and were given the title of ‘The Invincibles’.
Now, the team is a strong force both in the Champions League and in the Premier League. Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal will be hoping to achieve more success in the near future.
Location: Brentford, West London
Stadium: Gtech Community Stadium (17,250 capacity)
Gaining promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 2021, Brentford has now been in the EPL for three seasons. They managed to claim 13th-place in their first season and look set to survive yet another year.
Of the seven Premier League teams based in London, Brentford has featured in the fewest number of seasons. However, the future looks bright for the West London club.

Location: Fulham, West London
Stadium: Stamford Bridge (40,341 capacity)
Alongside Arsenal, Chelsea is the only other London-based club to have won the EPL. Chelsea has won the Premier League on five occasions, most recently in 2017.
However, the club is currently underperforming. After a poor 12th-place finish in the 2022/2023 season, they sit in mid-table this year. It is hoped that their talented manager, Mauricio Pochettino, will reignite the team once again.
4. Crystal Palace
Location: Croydon, South London
Stadium: Selhurst Park (25,486 capacity)
Also known as ‘The Eagles’, Crystal Palace was founded in 1861. Since the league’s inception in 1992/1993, the Eagles have featured in 12 Premier League seasons. And that includes the last eight in a row.
Formerly of Arsenal, another London-based Premier League club, Crystal Palace is managed by Patrick Vieira. It is hoped that Crystal Palace will remain in the Premier League for at least another season.
Location: Fulham, West London
Stadium: Craven Cottage (25,700 capacity)
Fulham has experienced a pretty turbulent journey in the Premier League. Since the 2017/2018 season, the London-based team has experienced a promotion followed by a relegation twice in a row, followed by a promotion last season back into England’s top-flight. Can they hold their place this season?
One of Fulham’s most memorable accomplishments was reaching the UEFA Europa League Final in 2010. This was an incredible achievement for a mid-table Premier League club.

Location: Tottenham, North London
Stadium: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (62,850 capacity)
What is perhaps the most surprising of the Premier League teams in London, Tottenham Hotspur has played in the Premier League for all 30 seasons and is yet to win it.
Also known as ‘Spurs’, Tottenham has a fierce North London rivalry with Arsenal. The team moved from the historic White Hart Lane to their new stadium in 2019, which is also where many of London’s NFL games are played.
7. West Ham
Location: Stratford, East London
Stadium: London Stadium (62,500 capacity)
West Ham, or ‘The Hammers’, has one of the largest football fanbases in London. However, the club has not been as successful as many others on this list.
Back in 2010/2011, West Ham were relegated to the Championship. However, they bounced back two seasons later and have remained in the Premier League since.
The most impressive feat of recent years was West Ham’s Europa Conference League success in 2022/2023. The London club managed to win the whole tournament, defeating Fiorentina in the Final.
So, now you know how many Premier League teams are in London. You also know a little bit about each of those clubs!
