Oh, man isn’t this exciting?!?! The Premier League being back makes my spine tingle! The Premier League is coming off a season where they scored 1,076 goals breaking their single-season goals record. It’s an interesting fact because when Mohamed Salah won the golden boot with 32 goals the year prior yet Sadio Mane, Aubameyang, and Salah all equaled 22 goals last year. They scored 10 fewer goals than Salah did in the previous season. So, what does that mean? Everybody is scoring goals. Modern football has allowed fullbacks to score goals with the number of overlapping runs performed during the game giving wingers more options to move the ball or reposition themselves in scoring opportunities, for example, Raheem Sterling, Mane, and Salah. Every position seems to be more involved in the attack as attacking football is overpowering the ‘Tiki-Taka’ phase.

One thing is for sure, we won’t see 3 African players on top of the scorer’s board this season. Mohamed Salah is looking to win three consecutive golden boots for the first time since Thierry Henry and his fiery campaign before the 2006 World Cup. Salah is expected to have another impactful season with Liverpool along with the help of Mane, Firmino, and manager Klopp. Sadio Mane will be close behind Salah in the golden boot race as he picks up the pieces Salah is forced to leave, as Salah is always double-teamed. Harry Kane would have won the Golden Boot last year if he didn’t suffer an ankle injury sidelining him for the last part of the season, but with the new arrival of Tanguy and the brilliant football mind of Spurs manager Pochettino, Harry Kane will continue to smash the ball into the back of the net and continue to be Tottenham’s main target. Sergio Aguero will be looking to continue his stellar Premier League career as one of the top strikers ever in the Premier League. With the consistent roster changes Pep conducts in the City lineup, Aguero seems to always find himself on the scorer’s sheet no matter if he played 20 minutes or 70 minutes. Jamie Vardy has been roaming around the Top 5 for scorers after Leicester’s title-winning season as he is a posing threat to defenders.

There are three players I like the most to win the Golden Boot but I’m going to decide who I think we will win it as I’m writing to you. My three favorites are Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, and Raheem Sterling. Harry Kane (+450) is an obvious favorite as he is the most consistent striker in the Premier League in the last few seasons. Although Kane is injury prone and has had a struggle coming back into the team as his eagerness overpowers his patience, the big English number nine will still haunt defenders. The addition of Tanguy will help Kane’s productivity in the final third along with Son, Dele Alli, and Christian Eriksen. Mohamed Salah (+550) has been an inspiration since returning to the Premier League. He has scored 54 Premier League goals for the Reds in his first two seasons with Liverpool.  That statistic in itself is hard to look past as Liverpool still haven’t won the league, which adds more motivation for Salah to get that trophy into Liverpool’s hands by scoring more goals. Mane is a great distraction for Salah as defenders are going to have to decide who they would rather double team more often. Then there is Raheem Sterling (+1600) which is an underdog compared to Kane and Salah. Pep seems to fall in love with Sterling more and more. Although they had their differences at first, Pep has been more comfortable utilizing Sterling who had the best two seasons of his career so far. With Leroy Sane’s departure seeming to be more of a reality, Pep’s demand for Sterling will be greater than before. I think Raheem has grown up as a player week-by-week and I think he is ready to be a top 3 goal scorer in the Premier League.

After assessing all the stats and having discussions with my gut, Mohamed Salah (+550) will be the first three-time consecutive Golden Boot winner since Thierry Henry, which is a stellar way to continue your legacy as a Premier League great! I feel as if Harry Kane will have a set-back due to injury and Manchester City have too many scoring options for Raheem Sterling to emerge as a Golden Boot winner. “Mo Salah, running down the wing, Salah lah lah lah lahhhhh!”

Wag out!
