Detroit now holds its best win record since 1962 following a late 31-26 victory against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Sunday was a good day for Detroit Lions fans.
Trailing 26-14 in the fourth quarter, the Michigan franchise showed incredible resistance to claw the game back and post a 31-26 victory.
Does Detroit have what it takes to make it to the Super Bowl?
Well, as it stands, Detroit has the second-best record, only behind the Philadelphia Eagles who are currently 8-1. So there’s no reason why couldn’t they make it to the Big Game in Las Vegas.
The last time that the Lions were 8-2 was 61 years ago, back in 1962. Just to highlight how long ago this was, the very first Super Bowl took place four years later.
What happened in 1962?
The Detroit Lions finished with an 11-3 record in the 1962 season after finishing 8-2.
They finished only behind the Green Bay Packers, who finished the season 13-1. Funnily enough, the Packers’ one loss that season came against Detroit.
The Lions won the third-place game in 1962, beating the Steelers 17-10 to round off a memorable season and finish with a 12-3 record.

Jared Goff, following Detroit’s victory on Sunday, said:
“I think I’ve been on good teams, bad teams, really good teams, really bad teams, and you tend to figure that the good teams are the ones that kind of win those games late, and it’s like you don’t really know why or how but you always make the right play in the fourth quarter…like little things keep happening that go your way and it’s a sign of a good team.”
