Colorado Avalanche v Dallas Stars Game 5 Preview, Predictions and Picks

The Colorado Avalanche look to push off elimination after a quick turn around playing the Dallas Stars in Game 5, after going down 3-1 in Game 4, in less than 24 hrs.Β

The Colorado Avalanche will have many people blaming Cale Makar for this loss. Blaming his lack of concentration on the pass from Pavel Francouz, and deflected it directly in front of his own goal whereΒ Denis Gurianov was waiting to pounce. Scoring an easy goal at 8:02 into the 3rd period. This goal ended Pavel’s night, forcing the Avalanche to use their 3rd-goaltender of this series. But this is not where the game was lost, things happen. Where it was lost was in the 1st period where the Colorado Avalanche allowed 3 goals. This is when they completely fell asleep at the wheel for over 4 mins. From 6:18-10:45 into the period, which is when all three 1st-period goals were scored by the Dallas Stars.

Three of the Dallas Stars 5 goals came on the Power Play, 2 of those 3 came before the Av’s had a single shot on goal. It could not have started any worse for the Avalanche, or better for the Stars for that matter. The biggest positive you can take from this game for the Colorado Avalanche is the fact that they did not simply give up after falling 5-2. Instead Cale Makar took his mistake personal, flying all over the ice. Then Valeri Nichushkin, andΒ Vladislav Namestnikov were able to finish the deal in the O-zone with their 2nd and 1st goals respectively. Of not only this game, but the entire series.

Make sure to take advantage of this amazing offer (and the one above) from DraftKings:

This reaffirms my belief this team has no quit. As they were simply a bad luck goal away from sending this game into OT with 7 seconds left on the clock. This goal brought us to the final score of 5-4. My magic number from last time of 90% held true again, as the starter Pavel Francouz had a save% of .808. Pavel never got to get comfortable as he face all 7 of the Stars power plays. The Colorado Avalanche defense looked soft again until it was too little too late. After the goaltender switch to Hutchinson, they only allowed 3 shots on goal by the Dallas Stars in the final 12+ mins. of regulation.

All of this has me believing the Colorado Avalanche will remain undefeated against the Over in this series as I will be taking another O/U Line from DraftKings:

I know I keep saying it, but the Colorado Avalanche will not quit, no matter the odds. With how quickly they can score, no lead is safe, at any point in the contest. So I took the Moneyline from Draftkings as well:

Cale Makar looked like a man on a mission after the aforementioned embarrassing loss of concentration. He has scored at least 2 pts. in 3 straight games. With all the banged up defensemen on this team, Cale will continue to log 20+ MOI for the foreseeable future. This lead me to take this Player Prop from DraftKings:

My final pick will be for MacKinnon to score a goal after he extended his Colorado Avalanche team record scoring streak to 12 games with an assist. He hasn’t went 2 straight games this playoff without a goal. This made this line from Draftkings easy to take:
