Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz officially returned to practice on Monday after undergoing a procedure on his foot in early August. Now, the question on every Colts fans’ lips – can he lead the Colts to success this year?
The former Eagles man remains ‘optimistic’ that he will be ready to go for the Colts’ season opener on September 12 when they host Seattle:
“As long as there’s nothing I can do to injure myself, or make it worse, I know I’ve played through a lot worse.”
With Wentz back on the practice field with 20 days before the season opener, it’s fair to assume that he will appear against the Seahawks.
Everyone knows what Carson Wentz is capable of. In 2017, he helped the Eagles record an 11-2 record before a season-ending ACL injury. Nick Foles took the reigns in the quarterback spot and guided the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory over the Patriots. This was Philadelphia’s first Super Bowl win in its history, with Carson Wentz being one of the catalysts for success that season.
He continued to defy the odds in 2019 when he became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 4,000 yards with no wide receiver over 500 yards. This record was coupled with the most yards thrown in Eagles franchise history.
Things went downhill for Wentz last year, but the ability is clearly still there. If he can stay fit and if his teammates can perform to a high level alongside him, the Colts could be a force to be reckoned with.
Since the news broke of Carson Wentz’s return, the sportsbooks’ odds have changed in favor of the Colts. Their win total has gone from 8 to 9 at DraftKings Sportsbook and their odds to win the AFC South have been slashed.
Odds to win AFC South 2021
The Colts are currently second-favorites to win the AFC South in the upcoming season. Here are the current odds to win AFC South 2021 at DraftKings Sportsbook:
- Tennessee Titans (-115)
- Indianapolis Colts (+150)
- Jacksonville Jaguars (+650)
- Houston Texans (+3000)
The odds market speaks for itself here. The majority of Football fans think that the Titans will win the AFC South this year, but it is likely to be a hard-fought battle with the Colts.
There is no reason why the Colts cannot top the AFC South. Houston and Jacksonville don’t seem to worry anyone in the league so the real battle is with the Titans.
Odds to win AFC Championship 2021
Again, the Colts aren’t exactly favored in the betting markets here. However, they could be a good outsider pick if you believe that Carson Wentz’s introduction will make an impact.
The odds to win AFC Conference Championship 2021 at DraftKings are displayed below.

The Colts at +1800 seems a good bet, right? Of course, league heavyweights Kansas City, Buffalo and Baltimore are all in there ahead of Indianapolis, but why not go with them if you’re looking for a dark horse pick this season?
It’s going to be very interesting watching Carson Wentz in a new jersey this season. What will be more interesting is seeing just how far Indianapolis can go with a strengthened roster to work with.
