Bundesliga Saturday and Sunday: Preview, Predictions and Picks

With eight Bundesliga matches taking place on Saturday and Sunday, we provide a league preview and make our three selections for the weekend.

The return to action last weekend was exciting for Bundesliga fans around the world. Even sports fans who, in normal circumstances, would not be likely to watch the Bundesliga seemed to be tuning in. We could finally watch some well-worked team goals, individual magic and late controversies again –  the stuff we all know and love! The only difference this time was the absence of the passionate fans, some awkward goal celebrations and a lot of protective equipment around.

Here’s how the table looks after the Bundesliga’s return last weekend.

There were routine wins last weekend for the top two sides, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. In fact, five of the top six teams defeated their opponents, with RB Leipzig being the only team to drop points. They were held by Freiburg to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, with a late VAR decision preventing a Freiburg victory.

At the other end of the table, bottom-placed Paderborn drew with 16th place Dusseldorf and Werder Bremen were defeated by Bayer Leverkusen. Overall, the first weekend’s fixtures went pretty much as expected.

We kick off this week’s fixtures with the Berlin Derby on Friday. Check out our preview, prediction and pick for the game here. Then, Saturday and Sunday give us eight more Bundesliga matchups to enjoy:

Our Bundesliga Picks

From the Saturday and Sunday Bundesliga matches, we’ve carefully selected our three best bets for you to consider when making your own bets.

Pick 1: Erling Haaland to score first in Wolfsburg vs. Borussia Dortmund (+275 at FOXbet)

We predicted it last weekend and it happened. Haaland stepped up to score the Bundesliga’s first goal in three months against Schalke, which helped his side to a 4-0 victory at The Westfalenstadion. His 29th minute strike made it the Norwegian’s 10th goal in just six Bundesliga starts. Throughout the game, Haaland looked both comfortable on the ball and a threat in front of goal and we think, at odds of +275 at FOXbet, this is a bet worth wagering.

Pick 2: Over 3.5 goals in Borussia M’Gladbach vs. Bayer Leverkusen (+125 at BetMGM)

Both teams come into this game on the back of two straight victories, scoring a combined 13 goals in the process. Last weekend, Monchengladbach cruised to a 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, while Leverkusen comfortably brushed aside Werder Bremen in a 4-1 win. Both sides know how to be lethal in front of goal and will be desperate to clinch all three points, in a game that could prove very significant in the battle for the top four and those all-important European places.

Monchengladbach sit in 3rd place in the Bundesliga, with Leverkusen just two points behind in 5th. It’s expected to be a feisty encounter and definitely one to watch from a neutral point of view. We expect goals galore.

Pick 3: RB Leipzig Moneyline vs. Mainz 05 (-212 at DraftKings)

The odds aren’t as high on this pick, but it’s got to be a lock. The two sides have very different expectations this season and everything points towards an easy Leipzig victory. Mainz currently sit in 17th place while Leipzig are in 4th and battling to retain their Champions League status for next season.

After a surprising 1-1 draw last weekend with Freiburg, Leipzig don’t really have any room for error this week. It’s only a matter of time before their star striker Timo Werner starts scoring again and adds to his season tally of 21 league goals. It’s also worth noting that Leipzig thumped Mainz 8-0 in this fixture back in November!
