Two heavyweights battle it out on the opening night of the NBA season as the Milwaukee Bucks host the Brooklyn Nets. This is a rematch from their entertaining seven-game Eastern Conference semifinals this past postseason.
Brooklyn head into the season opener as 1-point underdogs. They’re missing star man Kyrie Irving for this one, which may hinder their chances on Tuesday.
Brooklyn Nets Preview
Kyrie Irving’s decision to remain unvaccinated has been the story looming over this enticing matchup. He will be unavailable for all Nets home games for the foreseeable future, and will be unlikely to feature in the near future.
However, the Nets have brought in some new faces in offense which could prove to be vital ahead of a big game against the reigning NBA champions. They have signed Paul Millsap, LaMarcus Aldridge and veteran guard Patty Mills.
While the Nets’ overall squad depth has improved during the offseason, results may suffer without one of the highest scorers in the league. But, if performances from last season are anything to go by, the Nets are always in with a shout.
Milwaukee Bucks Preview
The fact that the Milwaukee Bucks finished last season as reigning champions says it all. They are a force to be reckoned with.
However, they haven’t made any major additions to their arsenal since that famous night back in July. P.J. Tucker has since left for Miami, which means that Giannis Antetokounmpo will likely draw the assignment of guarding Durant and will need to use up more energy in defense.
The Bucks are currently third-favorites to defend their NBA Championship this season (+800 at Caesars).
Brooklyn Nets vs Milwaukee Bucks Odds
The Bucks are 1-point favorites heading into this one. It’s very tough to call with no recent results and performances to base projections off of. We are also unsure how each side will perform due to significant absences and new arrivals.
If you are more of a fan of the money line, the Bucks are -120 to win at Caesars Sportsbook. The under/over total is currently set at 234 points.
Brooklyn Nets vs Milwaukee Bucks Pick
As the opening game of the season, it’s always tough to predict the winner. Especially in a game between two favorites for the 2022 NBA Championship.
Our pick is under 234 points in Tuesday’s matchup. With Kyrie Irving missing from the Nets’ offense, they may be lacking in the point-scoring department.
Giannis might be called on for additional defensive efforts too following the departure of Tucker in the offseason. Again, this will take away from point scoring potential in the Bucks camp.
