BetRivers have reported that over 90% of the bets placed on the Australian Open finals were on winners Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka, resulting in big losses for the legal American sportsbooks.

BetRivers, a legal sportsbook in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Colorado, Illinois and Michigan, have reported that they suffered big losses on the first tennis Grand Slam of the season thanks to wins for favorites Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka.
Djokovic had attracted 39% of the Australian Open 2021 Futures handle at BetRivers and, despite his final with Daniil Medvedev being a ‘pick em’ in the pre-match betting, 94% of the handle for the match.
It was a similar story in the women’s draw, with Naomi Osaka having been the best backed player in the women’s Australian Open Futures betting. BetRivers reported 45% of the handle was on Osaka before her match with 22nd seed Jennifer Brady and then a further 91% of the match betting handle was placed on the Japenese.
Djokovic is now +300 to follow up his Australian Open win by claiming the French Open title in May. Osaka is +1200 to win the women’s title.
