After the Lions take Aidan Hutchinson at #2 in the NFL Draft, the sportsbooks are predicting a blockbuster first year on the big stage for the defensive end.
Caesars Sports SPECIAL OFFER
Well, it’s official. Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft is over and Aidan Hutchinson is a Lion!
Hutchinson, a Detroit boy himself, also played his college football at Michigan. He was drafted as the second overall pick by the Detroit Lions.
Now, it wasn’t set in stone as to where Hutchinson would end up. Many expected Hutchinson to go first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. But Jacksonville instead picked up Travon Walker with their pick.
Round 1 NFL Draft Results

Hutchinson lit up the college football world last year. He was one of the best pass rushers and Detroit will be hoping he can carry that ability into the new NFL season.
The sportsbooks have pretty high hopes for Hutchinson too. The defensive end is ALREADY favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year at all of the major online sportsbooks. And he hasn’t even stepped out onto Ford Field yet.
Let’s take a look at how Hutchinson could contribute to a Lions roster that managed just three wins in the 2021 NFL season, and how he fares against other defensive players in the league heading into the 2022 season.
BetRivers Sports SECOND CHANCE
Aidan Hutchinson Track Record
Aidan Hutchinson was the Wolverines’ Rookie of the Year back in 2018. From then, he was a consistent performer for Michigan.
The 2020 season brought pain for the defensive end as a leg fracture ended his season prematurely. In 2021, he was back to his best, winning the Lott IMPACT Award, Lombardi and Ted Hendricks Award.
Hutchinson was also Heisman Trophy runner-up. This is almost unheard of for a defender.

So, How Can Hutchinson Benefit the Lions?
Firstly, the Lions are getting a man who has experienced many big games in his college career. He led Michigan to the 2021 College Football Playoff.
Secondly, Hutchinson brings exceptional stats potential to the table. He ranked third in the FBS with 14 sacks from 62 total tackles. Additionally, he broke up three passes and forced two fumbles in 14 starts. This man knows how to stop dangerous attacks.
Detroit conceded 2296 rushing yards and 52 touchdowns in their 2021 regular season. That’s high. Bringing in a defensive player with bags of potential is EXACTLY what the Lions need.
